Accessories For Xbox Controllers

Chat Headset

The Xbox One Wired Chat Headset (Model 1564) is a single-ear headset with a permanently connected boom microphone that connects to an adapter that fits into the rectangular expansion port on the bottom of the Xbox One controller; it also uses plastic alignment prongs for stability.

The Chat Headset comes with three buttons on the adaptor, allowing you to adjust voice chat volume and switch off the microphone. A variant of the Chat Headset was subsequently made available with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack rather than the adapter; on this updated version, the controls were located in a tiny plastic pod alongside the wire.

Stereo Headset Adapter

On the bottom edge of the original Xbox One Wireless Controller (Model 1537), there is a 2.5 mm monaural headset jack. The Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter (Model 1626) allows you to use stereo headsets with 3.5 millimeter headphone jacks on all Microsoft Xbox One controllers, including the original (Model 1537).

There's also an adapter for 2.5mm headphone ports. The original controller's monaural headset jack only transmits chat audio; the Stereo Headset Adapter connects both chat and in-game sound to the headphones, instead. The Stereo Headset Adapter has five buttons that allow you to balance chat and game audio volumes, as well as mute the microphone. It was available separately or as part of a package with the Xbox One Stereo Headset (Model 1610).

Chatpad

The Chatpad is a smartphone-controlled Bluetooth gamepad that connects to your PC through an Xbox chatpad. On August 4, 2015, the Microsoft Chatpad keyboard attachment (Model 1676) was shown for the first time at Gamescom. The Chatpad also includes the capabilities of the Stereo Headset Adapter and is included in the current version of the Chat Headset with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Chatpad also includes two user-defined programmable keys, which may be used to take screenshots (X1) and game clips (X2) without using a software menu if that capability is enabled in the Xbox Dashboard settings.

Play and Charge Kit

The official rechargeable battery pack for Xbox One controllers, like the one sold with the Xbox 360 edition, is the Play and Charge Kit (Model 1556/1727), which includes a battery as well as a charging cable.

The cable is a typical USB-A to micro-USB 9 ft (2.7 m) long with an indicator light that displays charge status information, which glows orange while charging and changes color when charged. The Xbox One Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery supplied by Microsoft has a capacity of 1400 mAh at 3 V.

The Play and Charge Kit was renamed to the Xbox Rechargeable Battery + USB-C Cable and made available in 2020 for the Series X/S controllers. The battery pack is outwardly identical to the original, with the exception of the cable, which is now a 9 foot (2.7 m) USB-A to USB-C cord rather than micro USB. The light on the updated cable has been removed.

Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows

The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows (Model 1713) is a USB-A dongle with a single button that enables computers running the Windows 10 or Windows 11 operating system to connect with Xbox controllers, headsets, and comparable devices via the proprietary Xbox Wireless protocol rather than Bluetooth.

It was launched in June 2015 and began shipping in October of that year. New drivers were released in December 2015 to support Windows 7 and 8.1. A single white LED illuminates to indicate pairing and wireless connection status.

The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 (Model 1790) was updated in August 2017 with a reduced form, reducing potential physical interference with adjacent USB ports. The revised Model 1790 does not support Windows 7 or 8.1, as specified by its name.
